As close to the top as Rob Lowe got in Wayne’s World.

I’m working through the Mutant Massacre omnibus at the moment and the 80’s new wave/punk looks for Rogue, Storm & Dazzler look great. I guess they don’t look so dated in superhero form. I don’t remember Dazzler being involved in the Mutant Massacre? She’s only in one main issue of it, where Malice takes control of her and then the X-Men who show up to help. Her & Longshot join up with the team a few issues later; the Massacre is over but they’re tending to the survivors on Muir Island. The omnibus starts with the Massacre but also has plenty of the aftermath from X-Men & X-Factor. It’s a wonderfully packed volume; has a few issues of Thor, Power Pack and even the Daredevil issue where he fights Sabretooth and throws in the X-Men vs Fantastic 4/Avengers miniseries for good measure.

I'd go with his Backlash match against the Rock. It is crazy how he had many better matches though in 2001 post surgery. It’s weird to think about how short Austin’s peak was. After the initial neck injury, he had 2 years between Survivor Series 97-99, took another year off for surgery, came back in late 2000 and was gone in spring 2002 (with really not much of note happening after the InVasion wrapped up). He was really only around for 3 years after his first WWF Title win.

I’m lucky enough to live near King of Prussia PA, which has one of the few 70mm IMAX theaters in the world. It was just awesome watching it that way.
I found it interesting that it really veered away from traditional blockbusters tropes (long stretches of quiet scenes, a morally ambiguous if not downright heel turn ending, etc) and audiences are flocking to it. I’m really hopeful we’re seeing a return to auteur-driven pictures being huge hits (following the Barbenheimer one-two punch of last summer) and the MCU and James Gunn take that to heart as well.

Ultimate Warrior/Honky Tonk Man at Summerslam 88 has to be way up on the list.

Pre-Model Rick Martel is the definitive white-meat babyface to me: fairly bland personality and more often than not the underdog, but is exciting in the ring and looks like a million bucks, so he naturally gets people behind him. That thing wrestlers used to do where they’d get fired up, clap their hands, then ball their fists and shake like “C’MON!!”, like a mini Hulk Up? I always picture Martel when I picture that.

I would just like to say that I feel “discourse” is the most irritating phrase this board has seen since the “Basketball Jones” days.

Not to mention they get a lot of leeway. Aforementioned lack of ratings threads Booker T saying he had a confrontation with Punk at an NXT taping. If it was AEW I'd be looking at page 77 by now. Currently? Nada. AEW has a lot defenders and leeway, too. The Booker T thing probably doesn’t have a thread because there’s a 99% chance he’s joking given he did this same thing with Corey Graves last year. I think the last time we had a thread about something Booker said, it was because he actually made sense or acted logically and we were just so surprised by it.

So instead of Cole yelling “IT’S BOSS TIME!”, does Excalibur shout “IT’S CEO’CLOCK!” now?

Today on Pat's show they talked about who's in the game and the process. AJ Hawk, Darius Butler, Boston Conner, and Ty Schmidt are in the game. They got scanned at Raw last night, so that's an interesting insight on when DLC is scanned vs when they're released. They got a questionnaire and then we're interviewed on what they wanted their characters to look like, fighting style, moves and finishers. AJ said he wants his finisher to be a top rope dive where he holds his arms behind his back and hits his jaw into his opponents head. His entrance is him running the rope six times while keeping eye contact with his opponent. I’m glad the other DLC packs are solid because I’ll be skipping this one entirely.

I’ve never seen this young lady work before but that was the greatest sell of a low blow since Bryan Danielson kicked Brock in the dick at Survivor Series 2018.

The news isn't surprising, as the rumor has been out there for some time. But I wonder if WWE will open the entire seating bowl instead of half the stadium like they did for SummerSlams 2021 and 2022, which, while looking perfectly fine on television, led to some really strange views for the fans in attendance who were staring across from tarps covering half the stadium: It looked much nicer at Ford Field last year because they could just hang a big curtain from the roof over the empty section. They also only had to block out one of the end zones, not a whole side so maybe the hot ticket sales will help it out this year.

I wish both of them nothing but the best in their personal lives but I really hope they can both f*** off from TV forever now. If the bit about Miro moving back to Bulgaria is true, I imagine that’s the last we’ll see of him for…ever, possibly?

TAKA Michinoku, sometime in the spring of 2000 on Raw. Probably the peak of Hunter’s peak, you actually think TAKA’s going to win the WWF Title during that match.
